History of the Music Video

The Beetles during the 60s began the popular style of using promotional clips of their music to advertise their songs, other bands such as Pink Floyd, The Kinks and Bob Dylan all began to copy this technique to advertise their songs
In 1981 MTV began in America, first playing video killed the radio star. MTV was the first television channel popularized as a video-based outlet for music . From this emerged numerous sister channels.
Over the course of the 80s music videos became more sophisticated and artistic, more about plotline, mixing different styles of cinematography. David Bowie's-Ashes to ashes was one of the first ever music videos created.
Between the 70s and 80s was the beginning of music television with the start of the programme Top of the pops, which presented Queens promotional clip Bohemian Rhapsody.
